Digital Detox

Digital Detox – How Unplugging for a Day Changed My Perspective

We live in a world where our phones are the first thing we check in the morning and the last thing we see before sleeping. Notifications, endless scrolling, and constant updates have quietly become part of our daily routine. But one day, I decided to step away — a full 24 hours without my phone, laptop, or TV.

Why I Tried a Digital Detox

I realised I was spending hours on social media without even noticing. My mind felt cluttered, my attention span shorter, and my productivity lower. I wanted to see what life felt like without a screen in front of me.

The First Few Hours

Honestly, it was harder than I expected. I kept reaching for my phone every few minutes out of habit. But slowly, I started noticing small things — the sound of birds outside, the taste of my morning tea, the way sunlight fell into my room.

What I Did Instead

  • Went for a long walk without music or podcasts

  • Read a few chapters of a book I’d been putting off

  • Cooked a new recipe from scratch

  • Spent quality time with family without checking my phone

What I Learned

  1. My mind felt lighter – no constant stream of updates.

  2. Conversations were deeper – without distractions.

  3. Time moved slower in a good way – I enjoyed simple moments more.

Would I Do It Again?

Absolutely. In fact, I’m planning to make “No-Screen Sundays” a regular habit. It’s amazing how much life you notice when you’re not staring at a screen

Small Habits, Big Changes

Small Habits, Big Changes

Today I want to talk about something simple but powerful — small habits.

Often, we wait for a big moment to change our life — a new year, a Monday, a new month. But the truth is, our daily lifestyle is shaped more by tiny habits than big decisions.

This morning, I started my day by drinking a glass of water right after waking up. It sounds basic, right? But I realized how much energy it gave me. That one simple action made me feel like I was choosing wellness.

Next, I went for a short walk. Not a workout. Just a walk. 10 minutes of fresh air. No earphones, no phone. Just me, my thoughts, and the sound of life outside.

These little steps made a big difference in how I felt for the rest of the day.

A lifestyle

A lifestyle typically reflects an individual's attitudes, way of life, values, or world view. Therefore, a lifestyle is a means of forging a sense of self and to create cultural symbols that resonate with personal identity. Not all aspects of a lifestyle are voluntary. Surrounding social and technical systems can constrain the lifestyle choices available to the individual and the symbols they are able to project to others and themself.

The lines between personal identity and the everyday doings that signal a particular lifestyle become blurred in modern society. For example, "green lifestyle" means holding beliefs and engaging in activities that consume fewer resources and produce less harmful waste (i.e. a smaller ecological footprint), and deriving a sense of self from holding these beliefs and engaging in these activities. Some commentators argue that, in modernity, the cornerstone of lifestyle construction is consumption behavior, which offers the possibility to create and further individualize the self with different products or services that signal different ways of life.

Lifestyle may include views on politics, religion, health, intimacy, and more. All of these aspects play a role in shaping someone's lifestyle.  In the magazine and television industries, "lifestyle" is used to describe a category of publications or programs.
